PTO SPAGHETTI SUPPER: A special thank you to Jamie Giarrusso, Corinne Cooper, David Habib, and the rest of the JGW PTO for an amazing night on Wednesday at our annual PTO Spaghetti Supper. We were able to serve approximately 200 people!! The event was well attended, and we were able to have a 50/50 raffle and give away 3 raffle baskets.
SPORTS NEWS:
SOCCER: Congratulations to both the boys and girls soccer teams for their 2-0 victories this past Tuesday. Playoffs will start this Tuesday October 29th and the girls will play first. The game will be away at Hunking. Both teams will practice on Monday after school. If they are victorious on Tuesday, they will play on Thursday against the Nettle/Consentino winner. Good luck to both teams!
CROSS COUNTRY: The last cross country practice of the season for grades 6-8 will be this Tuesday (10/29) at 7:15am. The last meet of the season will be Wednesday (10/30) at 3:30pm at Winnekenni vs. Methuen.
Congratulations to the eleven 5th graders who competed in the Cross Country meet on Thursday. Both the boys and girls teams ran really well and show a lot of promise for the future. Eve Farrell placed 3rd in the girls race, while Jack-Henry Simonds came in 2nd in the boys race with Cameron Fawcette right behind him in 3rd place. We are so proud of all our 5th graders who showed a lot of heart at the meet. Thank you for a great season!
GIRL’S BASKETBALL: Girls will have practice Tuesday (10/29) and Thursday (10/31) this week after school until 5pm.
BOY’S BASKETBALL: Boy’s tryouts will continue this Monday (10/28) after school until 5pm. Students need to turn in their participation packet, and any boy that was unable to try out last week is invited to tryout on Monday.
CHEERLEADING: There will be practice on Monday (10/28) and Wednesday (10/30) this week after school from 3-5pm. The cheerleaders will also be hosting a bake sale this Wednesday (10/30) at all lunches.
SKI CLUB: There will be a parent information meeting this Wednesday (10/30) from 6-7pm in the cafeteria for any parent whose child would like to participate in ski club this year. If you have any questions about the meeting or are unable to attend, you can contact Amie Moscaritolo, who has volunteered to run ski club this year. Her email is amiemoscaritolo@gmail.com
CLUB NEWS:
MODEL UN CLUB: Model UN Club is underway for students in grades 6-8. Meetings will typically occur on Tuesdays, however this week they will be meeting on Thursday in Room 7 until 3:30 pm. Countries and committees will be assigned to all members so research can begin. Our Middle School UN conference will happen in mid-December. Any questions can be directed to Ms. DeLong the club advisor. We are looking forward to another successful year!
CHORUS CLUB: Chorus Club is looking for members! If you or anyone you know likes to sing, join Mr. Gariepy after school on TUESDAYS in the music room from 2:45pm-4pm.
SCHOOL NEWS TEAM: The School Newspaper, “The Poet,” is on sale at all lunches for 25 cents each.

SCHOOL DANCE: Our first school dance is scheduled for Friday, November 1st. This will be our annual Halloween/Costume dance. Grades 5-6 dance will be from 3-5pm in the cafeteria. Grades 7-8 dance will be from 6-8pm in the cafeteria. Tickets will go on sale in the main office this week and can be purchased for $5. If students wait and buy tickets at the door, they are $6. If there are any 7th or 8th grade students who are interested in helping with the dance, they are asked to please see Ms. DiGloria.
GRADE 8 WASHINGTON DC TRIP: Attention all 8th grade parents and students: there will be a meeting for the Washington DC trip in the cafeteria Tuesday night (10/29) at 6:00. Please attend if you are interested in going. If you want to go but can’t attend the meeting please see Mr. Blaustein in room 18.
GRADE 6 ECOLOGY SCHOOL TRIP: Grade 6 students have an opportunity to attend an overnight field trip this year to The Ecology School at Poland Spring Resort in Poland, Maine. We will be attending Monday, June 1, 2020 through Friday, June 5, 2020. The Ecology School Residential Overnight Program is a unique opportunity for students to experience a connected, multidisciplinary approach to learn and understand health and science concepts. There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 from 6-7 pm in Room 10. The trip, fundraising, scholarship, and chaperone opportunities will all be discussed, and all necessary paperwork will be given to families.
GUIDANCE UPDATE: Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical High School will be coming to JG Whittier Middle School on Monday, November 4th, 2019. This school offers a specialized animal science, agricultural, and natural resources program. Any 8th grade student who is interested in attending their presentation and learning more about their high school, can sign up in the Guidance Office through Friday, November 1st. Please see Mrs.Vlahos if you have any questions.
NO SHAVE NOVEMBER: For those who are not aware of what this event is, it is an opportunity for our staff to bring awareness to Cancer. No Shave November is specifically to bring attention to male forms of cancer.The idea behind this is that any male staff member in the building who is willing to participate will come into school on Friday November 1st clean shaven…..and after that, not touch a razor for the remainder of the month. The idea is that those staff members that participate will contribute a donation of whatever the price would have been on shaving for the month.We also ask if there are any other staff members that would like to donate, we would greatly appreciate it. We have been able to raise several thousand dollars over the past several years. The final piece is that we get the students involved. We will set up jugs/bottles with the participants faces on them that will be kept in the cafe for students to place their spare change and donations into. Whichever staff member raises the most money in their jug will then be subject to doing something embarrassing. Thanks to a former staff member, I happened to win last year, and dressed up as a woman (make-up and all) and walked through all of the classrooms….which seemed to be a huge hit for the students. We hope that your students will get involved and bring in some spare change into the staff member’s bottle that they want to see do something embarrassing/silly! Thank you in advance for your support! 100% of all donations will be sent to the American Cancer Society.

NOTICIAS DEPORTIVAS:
FÚTBOL: Felicitaciones a los equipos de fútbol de niños y niñas por sus victorias por 2-0 el martes pasado. Los playoffs comenzarán este martes 29 de octubre y las niñas jugarán primero. El juego estará lejos en Hunking. Ambos equipos practicarán el lunes después de la escuela. Si salen victoriosos el martes, jugarán el jueves contra el ganador de Ortiga / Consentino. ¡Buena suerte a ambos equipos!
A CAMPO TRAVIESA: La última práctica de cross country de la temporada para los grados 6-8 será este martes (29/10) a las 7:15 am. El último encuentro de la temporada será el miércoles (30/10) a las 3:30 pm en Winnekenni vs. Methuen.
Felicitaciones a los once alumnos de quinto grado que compitieron en el Cross Country se reúnen el jueves. Tanto los equipos de niños como de niñas corrieron realmente bien y muestran muchas promesas para el futuro. Eve Farrell ocupó el tercer lugar en la carrera de chicas, mientras que Jack-Henry Simonds quedó en segundo lugar en la carrera de niños con Cameron Fawcette justo detrás de él en el tercer lugar. Estamos muy orgullosos de todos nuestros alumnos de 5to grado que mostraron mucho corazón en la reunión. ¡Gracias por una gran temporada!
BALONCESTO DE NIÑA: Las niñas tendrán práctica el martes (29/10) y el jueves (31/10) esta semana después de la escuela hasta las 5pm.
BALONCESTO DE NIÑO: Las pruebas para niños continuarán este lunes (28/10) después de la escuela hasta las 5pm. Los estudiantes deben entregar su paquete de participación, y cualquier niño que no pudo probar la semana pasada está invitado a probar el lunes.
ANIMADORAS: Habrá práctica el lunes (28/10) y el miércoles (30/10) esta semana después de clases de 3-5pm. Las animadoras también organizarán una venta de pasteles este miércoles (30/10) en todos los almuerzos.
CLUB DE ESQUÍ: Habrá una reunión de información para padres este miércoles (10/30) de 6-7pm en la cafetería para cualquier padre cuyo hijo quiera participar en el club de esquí este año. VIAJE ESCOLAR DE ECOLOGÍA DE GRADO 6: Los estudiantes de sexto grado tienen la oportunidad de asistir a una excursión de campo durante la noche este año a The Ecology School en Poland Spring Resort en Poland, Maine. Asistiremos desde el lunes 1 de junio de 2020 hasta el viernes 5 de junio de 2020. El Programa de Pernoctación Residencial de Ecology School es una oportunidad única para que los estudiantes experimenten un enfoque multidisciplinario y conectado para aprender y comprender conceptos de salud y ciencias. Habrá una reunión informativa el miércoles 6 de noviembre de 2019 de 6 a 7 pm en la Sala 10. Se discutirán las oportunidades de viaje, recaudación de fondos, becas y acompañantes, y se entregará toda la documentación necesaria a las familias.
ACTUALIZACIÓN DE ORIENTACIÓN: La Escuela Secundaria Agrícola y Técnica de Essex North Shore vendrá a la Escuela Intermedia JG Whittier el lunes 4 de noviembre de 2019. Esta escuela ofrece un programa especializado en ciencias animales, agricultura y recursos naturales. Cualquier estudiante de octavo grado que esté interesado en asistir a su presentación y aprender más sobre su escuela secundaria, puede inscribirse en la Oficina de Orientación hasta el viernes 1 de noviembre. NO AFEITAR NOVIEMBRE: Para aquellos que no están al tanto de lo que es este evento, es una oportunidad para que nuestro personal concientice sobre el cáncer. No Shave November es específicamente para llamar la atención sobre las formas masculinas de cáncer.
La idea detrás de esto es que cualquier miembro del personal masculino en el edificio que esté dispuesto a participar entrará a la escuela el viernes 1 de noviembre afeitado limpio … y después de eso, no toque una navaja de afeitar por el resto del mes. La idea es que los miembros del personal que participen contribuyan con una donación de lo que sea que el precio hubiera sido por afeitarse durante el mes.
También preguntamos si hay otros miembros del personal que deseen donar, lo agradeceríamos enormemente. Hemos podido recaudar varios miles de dólares en los últimos años.
La pieza final es que involucramos a los estudiantes. Instalaremos jarras / botellas con las caras de los participantes en ellas que se guardarán en el café para que los estudiantes coloquen su cambio de repuesto y donaciones. El miembro del personal que recaude la mayor cantidad de dinero en su jarra estará sujeto a hacer algo vergonzoso.
Gracias a un ex miembro del personal, gané el año pasado, me vestí como una mujer (maquillaje y todo) y caminé por todas las aulas … lo que parecía ser un gran éxito para los estudiantes.
¡Esperamos que sus estudiantes se involucren y traigan algún cambio adicional a la botella del miembro del personal que quieran ver hacer algo vergonzoso / tonto! ¡Gracias de antemano por su apoyo! El 100% de todas las donaciones se enviarán a la American Cancer Society.
NOTICIAS DE ASISTENCIA: Las escuelas Haverhill quieren agradecer a nuestras familias y con la generosidad de muchos negocios de Haverhill estaremos sorteando grandes premios para las familias de la escuela Haverhill.
Cada estudiante que asista a la escuela todos los días entre el 25 de octubre y el 27 de noviembre tendrá su nombre ingresado para ganar un premio. Los premios se enviarán a casa con su estudiante el miércoles 27 de noviembre para disfrutar durante su descanso de Acción de Gracias.
