SPORTS NEWS:
Cross Country: Next Thursday is the Grades 6-8 City Championship Cross Country meet at Winnekenni Castle. The team will take a bus to Winnekenni but will need to be picked up at the end of the meet (4:30-5:00ish). The race will begin between 3:30-3:45pm depending on busing (starts 15 minutes after the last team arrives). Our boys and girls teams have been working hard to come support them at the meet!
CLUB NEWS:
JR VIP: October dates for Jr. VIP meetings are Wednesdays 10/16 and 10/30 . Each meeting is from 2:45 to 3:45.
Discovery Club: If you are interested in having your student participate in our before and/or after school Discovery club, there is still time to sign up. All applications are done online, and can be found right on the JGW website by clicking on the Discovery tab and following the directions from there. Discovery club begins on Tuesday, 10/8/19. It runs in the morning Monday-Friday from 7:15-8:05am. It runs in the afternoon Monday-Thursday from 2:45-4:45pm.
FACILITIES UPDATE: Please see link below of notification that was also sent home in regard to the outside of our building being treated for “stinging” insects.

I would also like to notify families that we have work being done to repair some leaks in our roof. Work is also being done to repair any steam leaks that the building has been dealing with, and this will include replacing the boiler. All of this work is currently on schedule, but I will update you with further information as it becomes available.
OTHER IMPORTANT NEWS/INFO:
PTO: Our next PTO meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 9th from 6:00-7:30pm
Site Council: Our next Site Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 9th from 5:00pm-6:00pm
Grade 6 Egg Drop: Next Friday is Grade 6’s Egg Drop Day! Students read the story Mercedes and the Chocolate Pilot by Margot Theis Raven to learn about the Berlin Airlift of 1948-1949. After reading the story, students use the engineering design process to build a drop package that will safely transport 2 eggs from a 40 foot drop. To help us with the project, the Haverhill Fire Department will be here with their ladder truck.
#LaCosteStrong: Our new GCP t-shirts have arrived, and students will begin earning these shirts next week as we begin a new month, and every month throughout the school year. This year we have incorporated our support to Mrs. LaCoste and her husband Mr. LaCoste on the back of the t-shirts. Check them out!
My final message is asking for your support in regard to students calling home sick. We are aware of students texting/calling home to notify parents/guardians that they are sick. This is against our school policy, as use of cell phones throughout the day is prohibited. We are asking that if you hear from your student that they are sick, that you please contact our school nurse. If your student is in fact sick and needs to be dismissed, our nurse will make a call to you. We appreciate your support with this.

A campo traviesa: El próximo jueves es el encuentro de Cross Country City Cross de Grados 6-8 en el Castillo Winnekenni. El equipo tomará un autobús a Winnekenni, pero deberá ser recogido al final de la reunión (4: 30-5: 00ish). También me gustaría notificar a las familias que estamos trabajando para reparar algunas goteras en nuestro techo. También se está trabajando para reparar las fugas de vapor con las que el edificio ha estado lidiando, y esto incluirá reemplazar la caldera. Todo este trabajo está actualmente programado, pero lo actualizaré con más información a medida que esté disponible.

Consejo del sitio: Nuestra próxima reunión del Consejo del Sitio está programada para el miércoles 9 de octubre de 5:00 p.m. a 6:00 p.m.
Grado 6 Gota de huevo: ¡El próximo viernes es el Día del Huevo de Grado 6! Los alumnos leen la historia Mercedes y el piloto de chocolate por Margot Theis Raven para aprender sobre el puente aéreo de Berlín de 1948-1949. Después de leer la historia, los estudiantes usan el proceso de diseño de ingeniería para construir un paquete de gotas que transportará de manera segura 2 huevos de una caída de 40 pies. Para ayudarnos con el proyecto, el Departamento de Bomberos de Haverhill estará aquí con su camión escalera.
#LaCosteStrong: Han llegado nuestras nuevas camisetas de GCP, y los estudiantes comenzarán a ganar estas camisetas la próxima semana a medida que comencemos un nuevo mes y todos los meses durante el año escolar. Este año hemos incorporado nuestro apoyo a la Sra. LaCoste y su esposo, el Sr. LaCoste en la parte posterior de las camisetas. ¡Míralos!
Mi mensaje final es pedirle su apoyo con respecto a los estudiantes que llaman a casa enfermos. Somos conscientes de que los estudiantes envían mensajes de texto / llaman a casa para notificar a los padres / tutores que están enfermos. Esto va en contra de nuestra política escolar, ya que el uso de teléfonos celulares durante todo el día está prohibido. Le pedimos que si tiene noticias de su estudiante que está enfermo, comuníquese con nuestra enfermera escolar. Si su estudiante está realmente enfermo y necesita ser despedido, nuestra enfermera lo llamará. Agradecemos su apoyo con esto.
