Hello JG Whittier Families!

Another week is in the books! We are almost 30 school days into the year! Here are some important updates and information to share with you from this past week, and this next week coming up:

BOOK FAIR: The Book Fair is coming!  It’s going to be held October 7-11th from 8:45 am-4 pm. It will be in our school library.

COOKIE FUNDRAISER: The cookie fundraiser has concluded, and the final calculations have been made. As a school we sold an incredible 1,606 boxes total!! Please stay tuned for more information coming soon in regard to the delivery date, and also the delivery date of all prizes! Great job done by all!!

SPORTS NEWS: 

CROSS COUNTRY: both teams ran really well and worked hard in Thursday’s city championship meet.  Whittier had a strong showing in both races and had several top finishers.  For the boys race, the top finishers were Devin Cloyd in 7th overall, Nate Comeau in 19th overall, and to round out the school’s top five runners were Jaydin Fuentes, Anthony Midolo, and Joe Delle Chiaie.  The girls worked together and ran a great race with Hailey Zarubaiko placing 3rd overall and Maddie Noury right behind her in 4th. Other top finishers for the girls were Angie Lucia, Jamie Patras, and Mia Smith.  Ms. DeLong and Ms. DiGloria along with the rest of JGW are so proud of all of our runners for their hard work, team spirit, and respect that was shown throughout the meet.

SOCCER: There are 2 games coming up this week, including Tuesday 10/8 at home and a game at Hunking on Thursday 10/10.

CLUB NEWS: 

DISCOVERY CLUB: Discovery club begins on Tuesday, 10/8/19. It runs in the morning Monday-Friday from 7:15-8:05am. It runs in the afternoon Monday-Thursday from 2:45-4:45pm.

JR VIP: There is a meeting scheduled for Wednesday 10/16 and Wednesday 10/30 from 2:45-3:45pm.

CHORUS: Chorus will begin meeting Tuesday, 10/8 after school.

SCHOOL NEWS TEAM: The School News Team will start meeting after school on Thursday, October 10th from 2:45-4:45. Please be in contact with Mr. Gariepy for details! And speaking of Mr. Gariepy…..

POETRY CLUB: Poetry club will have its first meeting of the school year on Friday, Oct 11, at 12:30 during lunch recess in room 15 with Mrs. Berthiaume. Students in grades 7 and 8 are welcome to attend. Students will bring their lunches to the meeting.  It’s a great way for everyone to interact and make new friendships as they write, share, and read poetry, as well as participate in other poetry-themed activities.

FACILITIES UPDATE: 

Crews have continued to be hard at work this week repairing leaks in the JGW roof, and also working on our heating system which includes replacing our boiler. All work continues to go well, and has not impacted the regular operation of our school day. It is also going as scheduled. I will continue to keep you updated as I receive updates and upon completion of both projects.

OTHER IMPORTANT NEWS/INFO:

This Wednesday is an Early Release Day for all students. Dismissal time will be at 11:05am

PTO: Our next PTO meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 9th from 6:00-7:30pm

Site Council: Our next Site Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 9th from 5:00pm-6:00pm

GOOD CITIZENSHIP PROGRAM: Our first full month of school is in the books. Each month our 4 grades will be competing against each other in a friendly competition revolving around good citizenship. September’s theme was Responsibility. The grades competed in categories that included weekly attendance, a “monthly challenge” that also revolved around being responsible and getting to school consistently, and total number of good citizenship points earned. With all of that being said, our 6th grade won the first competition of the year, and because of this they were able to participate and a huge game of capture the flag outside on Thursday morning to celebrate.

October’s good citizenship theme is Wellness. Stay tuned to find out who the grade winner will be! You can help your student earn points for their individual grade by making sure that they are in school each day! The first step to success in school is showing up!! Thanks for your support!

GOOD CITIZENS OF THE MONTH: Students who have earned the most GCPs for the month of September, have great attendance, and our recognized by the staff will be crowned Good Citizen of the month for September and will win one of our brand new GCP t-shirts. Winners will be announced next week. Stay tuned….

¡Otra semana está en los libros! ¡Estamos casi 30 días escolares en el año! Aquí hay algunas actualizaciones e información importantes para compartir con usted de la semana pasada y la próxima semana que viene:

FERIA DEL LIBRO: ¡Se acerca la Feria del Libro! Se llevará a cabo del 7 al 11 de octubre de 8:45 a.m. a 4 p.m. Estará en nuestra biblioteca escolar.

RECAUDADOR DE FONDOS DE COOKIES: La recaudación de fondos de cookies ha concluido y se han realizado los cálculos finales. ¡Como escuela vendimos un increíble total de 1.606 cajas! ¡Estén atentos para más información próximamente con respecto a la fecha de entrega, y también la fecha de entrega de todos los premios! ¡Buen trabajo hecho por todos!

NOTICIAS DEPORTIVAS:

A CAMPO TRAVIESA: ambos equipos corrieron realmente bien y trabajaron duro en el campeonato de la ciudad del jueves. Whittier tuvo una gran actuación en ambas carreras y tuvo varios finalistas. Para la carrera de niños, los primeros clasificados fueron Devin Cloyd en el séptimo lugar en general, Nate Comeau en el puesto 19 en general, y para completar los cinco mejores corredores de la escuela fueron Jaydin Fuentes, Anthony Midolo y Joe Delle Chiaie. CLUB DE POESÍA: El club de poesía tendrá su primera reunión del año escolar el viernes 11 de octubre a las 12:30 durante el recreo del almuerzo en la sala 15 con la Sra. Berthiaume. Los estudiantes en los grados 7 y 8 son bienvenidos. Los estudiantes traerán sus almuerzos a la reunión. Es una excelente manera para que todos interactúen y hagan nuevas amistades mientras escriben, comparten y leen poesía, así como también participan en otras actividades temáticas de poesía.

ACTUALIZACIÓN DE INSTALACIONES:

Los equipos han seguido trabajando arduamente esta semana reparando las goteras en el techo JGW y también trabajando en nuestro sistema de calefacción, que incluye el reemplazo de nuestra caldera. Todo el trabajo continúa yendo bien y no ha afectado el funcionamiento regular de nuestro día escolar. También va según lo programado. Continuaré manteniéndolo actualizado a medida que reciba actualizaciones y al finalizar ambos proyectos.

OTRAS NOTICIAS / INFORMACIÓN IMPORTANTES:

Este miércoles es un día de salida temprana para todos los estudiantes. La hora de salida será a las 11:05 a.m.

Toma de fuerza: Nuestra próxima reunión de PTO está programada para el miércoles 9 de octubre de 6:00 a 7:30 p.m.

Consejo del sitio: Nuestra próxima reunión del Consejo del Sitio está programada para el miércoles 9 de octubre de 5:00 p.m. a 6:00 p.m.

BUEN PROGRAMA DE CIUDADANÍA: Nuestro primer mes completo de clases está en los libros. Cada mes, nuestros 4 grados competirán entre sí en una competencia amistosa que gira en torno a la buena ciudadanía. El tema de septiembre fue la responsabilidad. Las calificaciones compitieron en categorías que incluían asistencia semanal, un “desafío mensual” que también giraba en torno a ser responsable y llegar a la escuela de manera constante, y el número total de buenos puntos de ciudadanía obtenidos. Dicho todo esto, nuestro sexto grado ganó la primera competencia del año, y por eso pudieron participar y un gran juego de capturar la bandera afuera el jueves por la mañana para celebrar.

El tema de la buena ciudadanía de octubre es el bienestar. ¡Estén atentos para saber quién será el ganador del grado! ¡Puede ayudar a su estudiante a ganar puntos por su calificación individual asegurándose de que esté en la escuela todos los días! ¡El primer paso para el éxito en la escuela es aparecer! ¡Gracias por su apoyo!

BUENOS CIUDADANOS DEL MES: Los estudiantes que obtuvieron la mayor cantidad de GCP para el mes de septiembre, tienen una gran asistencia, y nuestro reconocido por el personal será coronado como Buen Ciudadano del mes para septiembre y ganará una de nuestras nuevas camisetas de GCP. Los ganadores serán anunciados la próxima semana. Manténganse al tanto….
