Hello to our JG Whittier Families,

We’d like to welcome everyone back from what we hope was a great summer! We would also like to welcome all of our new families and students to the JG Whittier!

This has been a very busy and eventful summer here at the JG Whittier! First, we are anticipating the return of our Principal, Brian Gill, who will be returning soon from medical leave. We look forward to having him back! In the meantime, long time Haverhill administrator, Beth Kitsos, will be filling in as the Interim Principal.

We have also had many improvements made in and around our school building, and will be ready to greet all of you at our Open House on Monday, August 26^th from 5:30-6:30pm for 5^th grade families and 6:30-7:30 for families of 6^th-8^th graders.

Among some of the improvements include new lighting throughout the building, completely renovated student bathrooms, and new paving all around the outside of the building. Many people have worked tirelessly throughout this entire summer to make sure that the JG Whittier is safe and ready to accept all 530 students back to school on Tuesday, August 27^th!

The entire JG Whittier staff is keenly aware of the responsibility that is placed upon us to provide all of you with the best educational experience possible, and will strive to do so in a safe, supportive, nurturing environment.

Not only have we made the physical building safer with improvements and renovations, but we have also listened to you the families and students to help improve the quality of education that we provide as well. We as a school have benefited from partnering with an outside agency called 1647, who focus on family engagement. Based on survey results that nearly 40% of our JG Whittier families took last spring, we look to boost our communication and family involvement this year!

We will be offering students an opportunity at different enrichment activities throughout their school week on a rotating basis. With that being said, we are reaching out to you the families to ask if there is anything that you would be willing to volunteer/offer in regard to expertise or hobbies that you could come and facilitate in our building. If you are interested, I would encourage you to email me attbetty@haverhill-ps.org. When I receive your email, I can discuss the details further.

Also, based on all of the positive change that has occurred around the building, we are looking to maintain and continue to improve upon it all, and will be once again convening a school Site Council. If you have any interest in volunteering to be on the Site Council, please email me.

We hope that every single one of you has a positive experience with us here at JG Whittier. We as a staff truly pride ourselves on open lines of communication to ensure that we place your student’s safety, social, emotional, and academic well-being as our top priorities.

-Open House, Monday August 26^th

5:30-6:30pm for 5^th grade families only

6:30-7:30pm for 6^th-8^th grade families

Please check in at the front desk when you arrive and then proceed into the cafeteria

-The first day of school is Tuesday, August 27^th. Students can arrive starting at 8:05am and report to school no later than 8:30am daily to avoid missing important academic instruction time.

-Students can be dropped off in the pick-up/drop off line on the right side of the building for grades 5-6.

-Students can be dropped off along the driveway to Pentucket Lake on the left side of the building for grades 7-8.

-There is no entry into the main driveway during pick-up/drop-off times. This area is reserved for buses only.

-Grade 5-6 students report to the side/rear of the school on the right side of the building.

-Grade 7-8 students report to the side/rear of the school on the left side (Pentucket Lake side) of the building.

-In the event of inclement weather, there will be a blue flag placed outside at the front entrance to the school. Students will report to their hallway areas inside the building.

-Students are tardy after 8:40am

-Homerooms will be posted on the front door on Friday, August 23^rd after 4:00pm.

-Class schedules will be handed out to students/families who attend the Open House on 8/26, or they will be distributed on the first day of school.

¡Nos gustaría darles la bienvenida a todos de lo que esperamos sea un gran verano! ¡También nos gustaría dar la bienvenida a todas nuestras nuevas familias y estudiantes al JG Whittier!

¡Este ha sido un verano muy ocupado y lleno de acontecimientos aquí en el JG Whittier! Primero, anticipamos el regreso de nuestro director, Brian Gill, quien regresará pronto de su licencia médica. ¡Esperamos tenerlo de vuelta!
