CLASSROOM NEWS:

GRADE 5:

Ms. Simes: Thank you to all the families that came to our 5th Grade Gallery Walk on Friday.  The students were so excited to be able to share their work from this year.  This coming week in math, we will continue working within “Step Up to Grade 6.”   In science, students will test their engineering skills as they are given materials to design, construct, and “fly” their product!  As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at michele.simes@haverhill-ps.org.  Have a wonderful weekend.

Ms. Hogan: In social studies, students spent this week completing a project about a topic from chapter 7. Students chose to make posters about the Louisiana Purchase, the War of 1812, Manifest Destiny, the Trail of Tears, abolitionists, or the Underground Railroad.  Many students created beautiful and informative posters. Ask your child about the topic that they chose to make a poster about! Next week, we will learn about important events that happened during the Civil War.

Ms. LaCoste: Thank you to all of the families that came in for our gallery walk.  I am so proud of the efforts our fifth graders put into all of their projects. It’s nice to actually be able to share in a “normal” way!  This week students have been hard at work progressing through their informational research projects in ELA.  They also completed their i-Ready diagnostic tests in both Reading and Math.  It’s hard to believe the year is wrapping up!  As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.

Ms. Consolazio: In science, next week we will learn about gravity.  We will do some fun stem projects.  Thank you for coming to our gallery walks.  Please make sure students bring their Chromebook charged every day for class

Mr. Kelly: Thank you to everyone who came to the Gallery Walk. We are going into our last full week of school. We will be continuing to do more math projects to finish up the year. Also, there is field day next Thursday. Make sure the kids wear appropriate clothing for the event.

Ms. Lees: I am out of school this week and miss seeing the fifth graders. The next two weeks will be filled with completion of projects and some fun end of the year events for our kiddos. As always, students who have LEXIA accounts are encouraged to work at home with their reading online as well as to read everyday out loud with someone at home or to themselves. It will help all students to log into iReady for reading or math to strengthen their skills. Getting extra minutes is such a bonus towards learning. Please reach out if after school or before school help will support your student.

Ms. Blanchette: Students worked very hard this past week on the iReady diagnostic assessments in math and ELA. We are very proud of the progress they made. Please reach out with any questions or concerns.

Ms. Silveira: In math, we finally finished our statistics projects this week! We will be presenting them on Monday.

In science this week we found out some very interesting information on how cells are used to solve crimes. This assignment was definitely a mature assignment, and the students did very well showing that they could handle this mature content! They will be presenting their findings on Monday as well.
