JGW Family Memo 9/23

Hello JGW Community

We have so much going on at JGW so the memo this week has a lot of new information. We have events, fundraisers, informational meetings, the arts, and sports  in the upcoming month. Giving our scholars multiple opportunities to connect with the school is a key indicator of student success in academics.

Morning Recess: I will be looking at the structure of morning recess at JGW. I love that kids before school are outside and playing with their friends. But observing last year and to start the year we need more structure. In the short term we have assigned more teachers outside and even had parent volunteers watch recess with staff. I have also asked staff for suggestions to build a better structure in the morning routine. We want all scholars to start the day on a positive note before learning. More information in the upcoming weeks.

Morning Homework Help: If your scholar is interested in receiving homework help we have it every morning from 8:05am-8:25am in the art room.

Morning Basketball: We will have morning basketball every Friday starting at 8:05am

Artist Spotlight from Ms. Boulger’s class: watercolor painting by K’Loni a 6th grader.

JGW Calendar: the calendar on the website https://whittier.haverhill-ps.org/events/month/ is updated if you are looking for events, practices, or other JGW happenings.

PTO Fundraiser: We are launching our 2022-2023 cookie fundraiser with Adrenaline Fundraising! Thursday, September 22 and runs to Thursday, October 6th. Flier: JG Whittier Cookie Fundraiser Instructions English-Spanish.docx

National Junior Honor Society Fundraiser: Meadow Farms fundraising packets went home this week.  This fundraiser is sponsored by the National Junior Honor Society.  The fundraiser will last from now till October 14th.  There are some great prizes to be had, and if the school sells a certain amount, the honor society will donate hot chocolate to the  whole school.  Get those orders going.

September Family Event- Nature Walk around Pentucket Lake: You’re invited to join us on a fall nature walk around Lake Pentucket on Thursday, September 29th from 5-7 pm.  We will hike around the Lake Pentucket trail and view the beautiful sunset on Concord St.  The trail is 1.1 miles long.  This is a great opportunity for Walnut Square families, Pentucket Lake families, and J.G. Whittier families to meet and connect.  After the hike, families will receive resources to experience nature as a family.  This event will be held rain or shine, so proper dress, bug spray, and footwear are highly recommended!  Carriages and bikes are not recommended as it is a hiking trail.
