JGW Family Memo 2/10

Hello JGW Community

We are coming up to the week before February vacation and it feels like the year is flying by.

Our school site council made up of families, teachers, Ms. Koch, and myself presented the idea of modular classrooms to the school committee in October. As families know we use every nook and corner of the building to make space for all the learning that takes place.

Thursday night at the School Committee the Superintendent presented a plan around JGW to get modular classrooms to help alleviate the space issue in our building. At the meeting the Superintendent presented the enrollment numbers across the district and the cost of the modular classrooms. The School Committee had a spirited debate about the matter. There was no vote and the school committee will speak about this matter at the upcoming meetings. Our School Site Council families will be reaching out to JGW community members to help attend future meetings and advocate for our school.  We are very excited to see if the next steps can bring JGW closer to secure more space on campus.

JGW Cheerleading: CONGRATULATIONS to the Poet Cheerleading team. They performed amazingly last night at our Haverhill Cheer Exhibition. They represented our school with talent and sportsmanship- check out their routine on the Poet Facebook Page!.. Shout out to Jess Johnson for winning in the Jump Contest, Lyndsay Bowen for winning in the Tumble contest, Asiahs Ortiz and Rachleis Ozorio for winning Cheer Spirit Awards and Cayla Saunders for winning Team Player Award. We are so proud of the entire team and look forward to next year’s season!

Vape Education: We are going to start to have small groups of scholars receiving education from our counseling staff and Student Support Coordinator Ms. Shirey around the topic of the dangers of vaping. We want our scholars to realize the harmful long term effects of vaping at such a young age. The team will start with the 8th grade and work down to 5th and 6th grade. As a reminder to families we have vape detectors in our school building that helps alert us to any such activities in JGW.
