JGW Family Memo 6/2

Hello JGW Community,

Spring BOOK FAIR:

Dear Parents and Families:

We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. Hosted by our PTO, this event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries and further their love of reading. As always, all purchases benefit our school.

Here’s what you need to know about the Spring Fair, which will take place from Monday, June 5th – Thursday, June 8th at the JGW Library:

Our Book Fair offers eWallet , a safe and secure alternative to cash. Simply create a free account to add funds and/or invite family and friends to contribute so your child can select their own books. Any unused funds can be spent at The Scholastic Store Online or to fund a future eWallet.

If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.

Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

8th Grade Haverhill High School Information

Dear Parent or Guardian,

In order to help support our freshman transition from Middle School to High School, Haverhill High School is adding a WIN Block to all grade 9 students’ schedules.

What is WIN Block?
During the W.I.N. (What I Need) Block students will be provided with opportunities for enrichment, skills development, college and career readiness and social emotional learning. Staff across a variety of departments will work with students over the course of a semester to develop students’ awareness of the opportunities available to them and the skills they will need to access them here at HHS and beyond.

All HHS 9th graders will take this during semester I of their freshman year. Placement in an intervention or enrichment WIN block will be determined by the grade 8 June iReady diagnostic. Students enrolled in Classical Academy or CTE, will receive elements of WIN Block that are embedded into the curricula for those programs. Students will receive a .5 credit for successfully completing the course. Second semester, students will be placed into either an elective or an intervention class based on their iready data and skills assessment. WIN block is intended to help support students with:
–  Getting acquainted with HHS and its resource
–  Academic preparedness for high school level classes (7 academic classes a day each with their own demands)
–  Social/Emotional Support with the transition to High School
–  Increasing our college and career readiness curriculum at grade 9
–  Building relationships with staff
–  Skills development (Reading, Writing, Math)
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Have a great day,
Victoria Lu
Associate Principal HHS
