Hello JGW Community,

PTO Movie Night at JGW:

On Friday night September 28th the JGW PTO will show the Disney/Pixar movie Elemental on our new inflatable screen purchased by the PTO. Movie will start at 7pm. Please bring a blanket or a lawn chair to our courtyard area in the back of the school for a night with your community. To attend the movie is free for all JGW community members but our PTO will be selling concessions to raise money for our scholars. Cell phones: At JGW we understand middle school kids need cell phones to stay connected with families after school. This is a reminder that cell phones are to be put away and not used once your scholars come on campus. If you need to get in touch with your child please call the main office. Cell phones buzzing or ringing distracts the learning environment for all scholars.

If scholars are caught using a cell phone during the school day

• The 1st time will result in staff bringing the phone to the office and the scholar can pick it up at the end of the day. (warning)
• The 2nd time will result in the phone going to the office but being picked up at the school by a family member.
• The 3rd time will result in the phone going to the office but being picked up at the school by a family member and the scholar will be issued a detention.
• This was reviewed by ALL teachers the first week of school.

Model UN:

Model UN will begin on Monday, September 18th with an informational meeting. This club is open to all 6-8th graders who are interested in learning more about global issues and improving their debate skills. This club will take place every Monday starting on September 18th in Room 4. Please see Ms. Farnkoff in Room 4 or email her at alyssa.farnkoff@haverhill-ps.org with any questions.

PTO Apparel Fundraiser:

JG Whittier has teamed up with Red Brick Clothing Company to raise some funds for the PTO while showing your school pride. The PTO will receive 10% of all sales. The online store will open Thursday, Sept. 7th and close Sunday, September 17th

8th Grade Washington DC Meeting: On Tuesday September 12th, we had our mandatory meeting for all 8th grade scholars and their guardians. This meeting will give you information about the trip such as dates, cost, and fundraising opportunities. If you did not make the meeting please email Lauren Mackinnon at lmackinnon@haverhill-ps.org she will be the JGW point person.

Ms. Mackinnon has sign up packets your scholar can pick up from her during the school day or you can place a deposit at www.capitaltours.net the deposit is $125.00 and needs to be paid by November 17th.

Also all scholars going on the trip must sign a Haverhill Public Schools Washington D.C. Trip Participation Contract. This contract outlines the criteria to attend the trip. ENG_SP_Port DC Student Participation Contract 2024

Attendance Awareness Breakfast Contest is on!   The homeroom with the best attendance for the month of September will be honored with breakfast at school to thank them for making getting to school a priority in their home.
