Hello JGW Community,
JGW Spelling Bee: Congratulations to 8th grader Jhalia Ayala for her first place win in last Friday’s school-wide spelling bee! Jhalia will be competing in an online bee next month and then from there, it is off to the regional championship in Lynn. If she places first, she will be in Washington, DC, in the spring, competing in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Good luck, Jhalia! Congratulations to 7th grader Adriana Arndt who achieved 2nd place in the spelling bee. And of course congratulations to grade 6 student Gabe Fallon who placed third. We are so proud of you all and also the students who won their ELA classroom bees and competed on Friday. They were so brave! Thank you to the ELA teachers who prepared their students for the bee. By the way, the championship word was SOCIETAL.

Parent/Teacher Conferences: Thursday February 15th- 6pm-7:30pm
Poets Making a Difference: will be hosting a Teddy Bear Drive beginning January 16th – February 16th . We will be donating them to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Boston. We are asking for donations of new Teddy Bears. All shapes and sizes are welcome. There will be a donation box located in the cafeteria in the morning and during all lunches. Any student who donates a new teddy bear will be awarded 10 tickets! The homeroom with the most donations will win a pizza party. See Ms. Greer with any questions.
NJHS Fundraiser: The NJHS is having an MSPCA drive. We will be collecting gently used blankets, towels. Sheets, pillow cases and any toys or treats that pets can use especially in the cold winter months. The drive will run from January 16th to February 16th. Please bring all items to room 11. Thank you
Yearbook: Any 8th grader who would like to design a cover for the yearbook, should see Ms. Deblasis in Room 19 as soon as possible for the guidelines. The deadline to submit a yearbook cover design is February 1, 2024.
All 8th graders that would like to have their baby picture in this year’s yearbook, should email a wallet size picture to Ms. Deblasis no later than Monday, February 12, 2024. NO baby pictures will be accepted late!
Music Bingo for 8th grade Washington DC Fundraiser:
The event will be February 9th at the Legion in Haverhill (behind Shaw’s). Doors open at 6:30 games start at 7. Cash bar and snacks will be available but please feel free to bring your own snacks. No outside drinks allowed. There will be raffle prizes, a 50-50 and 7 games. Great Prizes! HUGE prize for the cover all. $20 for one card, $30 for two or the mega deal $40 for 4. Please sign up by February 6th to reserve your seat or table with your friends. No money till the night of!
