HAVERHILL PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Title I District and School Family Engagement Policy
2025-2026
Title I is the largest federal aid program for public schools in the United States. It is part of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) but originated from the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as part of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s “War on Poverty.” The Title I grant provides federal funds to schools with high percentages of low-income students. These funds pay for extra educational services to help at risk students achieve and succeed regardless of any disadvantages through no fault of their own.
Haverhill Public Schools is committed to providing an equitable and inclusive education to every child in this district by utilizing the Title I funds to provide school wide programs targeted to improving student achievement throughout their entire school; therefore every child benefits from the added services and programs. The grant requires schools to: (1) use research-based strategies to improve student achievement and (2) include strategies to support/encourage parent involvement.
In order to continuously evaluate and the strengthen family and community engagement, Haverhill Public Schools will:
- Host an annual Title I Information Night: Funding allocations, School Compact, Parents Right to Know.
- Provide families decision making opportunities by joining the Parent Teacher Organization, School Site Council or District Parent Council.
- Provide families with information on multiple ways to communicate with teachers and school: school phone numbers, email addresses, district and school websites, district FaceBook page, and the Remind App.
- Provide training and support on the online platforms that can be accessed at home.
- Host Academic and Social Family Events throughout the year.
- Provide assessment reports, progress reports, report cards and parent conferences.
- Solicit feedback through surveys and conservation.
The Haverhill Public Schools are committed to providing our students with opportunities to learn and grow into productive members of our community. Please contact me with any feedback or suggestions you may have – we are better together.
